XI International Symposium on Tardigrada

The congress was attended by 74 researchers from 16 countries from four continents (Asia, Europe, North and South America). During the three days of the meeting 39 talks and 36 posters were presented.

This was the second time a tardigrade conference was held in Germany. For the first time in the history of tardigrade Symposia Young Scientist Awards for oral and poster presentations were given.

In 2009 two tardigrade anniversaries were celebrated: the 80th anniversary of discovering Heterotardigrada by Ernst Marcus and the 50th anniversary of defining cryptobiosis by David Keilin.
